Position Title: Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Position Accountable To: Division Chair and Provost

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Central Methodist University seeks an Assistant Professor of Computer Science beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach a range of lower-level and upper-level computer science courses based on program needs. Candidates must be able to engage students both in and out of the classroom. Preferred areas of expertise include operating systems, computer networks, computer infrastructure, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The position may also include online teaching assignments. Expected teaching load is twelve hours each semester with additional responsibilities to include holding office hours, serving on committees, advising students, and continuing professional development.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 90%: Teach assigned classes at the scheduled times using effective and current teaching, testing, and grading techniques. Coursework should be graded and feedback provided to students in a timely manner. Be available to meet with students as needed before or after class or at other scheduled times throughout the week.  Develop course syllabi, lectures, and instructional materials using technology appropriate to the subject taught and aligned with the mission of the University.  Provide academic advising for assigned student advisees.

     

    10%: Committee meetings, service, personal research. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:             

A minimum of a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in a Computer Science field, or equivalent work experience, is required. A terminal degree (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in Computer Science or a related field and prior college-level teaching experience is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during class instruction and office hours. Must be able to speak clearly and project the voice effectively in a classroom setting. Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds may be required, such as books, equipment, or classroom supplies.
